We carefully select our accommodation to give you a comfortable nights’ sleep in the best possible locations. Our accommodation grades to find out more about what you can expect.
The places we stay are every bit as important as the sights we visit and the things we do. Think small, local and family-run rather than huge, global-branded and impersonal. Occasionally, when we want to get off the beaten tourist trail, we may stay in more basic accommodation. Choices are based on what’s available in the places we want to stay; we choose the accommodation to suit the itinerary, not the other way round.
We give our accommodation a grade – check the trip itinerary to find the grade for each day. We’ll also try to list the exact place where you’ll stay, however this isn’t always guaranteed. We constantly review based on customer feedback so the hotel may change, or it may not be available for the dates you choose. We’ll always try and replace it with accommodation of the same grade as listed. Find out more about what each of our accommodation grades mean below…
These are often small, family run establishments or campsites which provide a no-frills experience with adequate amenities and service standards. Sleeping arrangements are simple, sometimes with en suite facilities.
If your idea of adventure travel is to avoid big hotels and stay in characterful, family-run places where you can feel in touch with the local way of life, then you will enjoy our simple level accommodation. Experience traditional guesthouses in Peru, mountain lodges in Cusco, simple but homely ‘pousadas’ in Machu Picchu or beautifully located trekking lodges in Salkantay & Choquequirao. On our small Jungle journeys you’ll sleep in simple but comfortable cabins.
Our mid-range accommodation offers a good level of service, often with other amenities such as a restaurant, bar, garden or swimming pool. Generally rooms will have en suite facilities and heating or air-conditioning.
Typically on these tours you’ll be staying in small, comfortable hotels, lodges and guesthouses. As star ratings vary so widely from one country to the next we don’t use them to rank our accommodation, but our standard level hotels are roughly equivalent to European three star.
Please note this was previously known as our ‘standard’ accommodation grade.
Our premium accommodation is hand-picked for its character, location or local importance. These properties have excellent facilities and a higher level of comfort and service.
You don’t have to sacrifice authenticity when you choose a tour with premium level accommodation. Our hotels and lodges in this category are usually equivalent to four or five star standard. After your busy and active day you can unwind and relax in converted The Inka Palace, in Cusco, cool and elegant riad hotels in Lima, or in comfortable accommodations of Machu Picchu located in the heart of Machupicchu Sanctuary Lodge.
